Kupulau Road - Island of Hawaii ($750,000)
The Kupulau Road extension (plans, design, and construction) would reduce congestion of traffic on Komohana Street, a major thoroughfare in Hilo.
Residents would benefit by having alternate driving routes in the event of road work, traffic, or flooding. In addition, project work would provide job opportunities for Hilo residents in a wide range of professions. Kupulau Road is a Hawaii County Road. Hawaii County's General Plan includes a project to extend Kupulau Road to the Keaau-Pahoa Bypass Road. Funds are being requested for planning and design. The total estimated cost of the planning and design phase is $2,750,000; the State of Hawaii has budgeted $2,000,000 for this purpose.
