Lydgate Park-Kapaa Bike & Pedestrian Park, Phase B  - Island of Kauai ($5,000,000)

This project is a segment of the Nawiliwili to Anahola Bike/Pedestrian Path, which as planned will be a singular and remarkable public facility.

The path will provide a significant, much needed alternative  transportation route within and between the most heavily populated areas on the island.  The project will improve access to the beaches, which are public.  The path will be a treasure that Kauai residents and island visitors will be able to enjoy for many years to come.

In addition, the overall goals for the bike/pedestrian path include protecting shoreline access for residents and visitors, including those with mobility impairments, promoting health and fitness, enhancing access to culturally significant areas, and preserving historic railroad corridors.

By implementing this shared-use bicycle and pedestrian facility, residents and visitors to Kauai will realize the following benefits: establishing alternative forms of transportation to the automobile, thereby reducing fuel consumption, pollution, roadway congestion and the need for parking lots; creating affordable recreation for persons of all ages and abilitiest; and establishing safe modes of transportation and recreation.

The total estimated cost of Phase B of this segment of the path is $6,250,000.
